#14 Beverages – The bad and the good
Sometimes it’s the no-brainers that are the most fun for me to write about. We all know that certain beverages are very bad for you like those sugary drinks that we discussed in the last Baby Step, but there are actually far worse beverages than sodas.
A few years ago, I read an article on WebMD about water consumption. They stated, it doesn’t really matter where you get your liquids from, as long as you’re getting the right quantities. And I thought to myself, what a bonehead statement for someone to make. Especially so-called medical professionals. Look; If the only beverage you consume is sodas, your going to have health problems. If you only beverage you ever consume is milk, yes, you’re going to have problems. And if the only beverage you ever consume is tequila, you’re going to have some serious health problems.
So below, I am going to share with you the top 5 problem beverages. And if we know that these beverages are clearly bad for you, then why even drink a little.? Especially when there are other beverages that are so much healthier, like water. Duh.
Let me start with what I consider to be the absolutely worst beverage on the planet. Alcohol is certainly by far the worst of anything. I mean let’s get real here. Have you ever heard of orange juice destroying a marriage? Or has anyone drank too much milk and went to the casino and gambled there money away? Has anybody over done it on the diet pepsi, and then woke up next to a naked woman; only to discover a year later that AIDS is now your lifetime partner? Well alcohol has certainly done that to many people.
Then there are the intellectual types that heard red wine has antioxidant value, so their shot of Spiced Rum must be ok. The interesting facts about red wine were discovered by Dipak Das, a University of Connecticut professor. His findings on red wine and it’s antioxidant value was published in a 122 peer review journals. And from those published findings, thousands of people wrote articles. Many of which stated that drinking wine is good for you and you should have a couple of glasses every day. In fact today, you can simply go on google and find literally millions of pages showing that wine is good for you. And they all came from this one man’s discoveries.
The problem is that Dipak Das lied about the entire study. He was fired, and indicted for falsifying information, and later admitting that there is NO antioxidant value and that the alcohol actually kills any of the value the grapes had. But yet we will continue hearing the lie that has been so saturated by this evil deception. And that’s just the facts.
I’m not even going to waste your time showing you all the scientific facts proving how extremely damaging alcohol is to the body and mind. You are either intelligent enough to know that, or blindly denying and ignoring the facts.
Personally speaking, I’ve probably drank more liquor than most people could ever imagine. I owned a casino in Vegas for years. I was able to drink for free anywhere, and let me tell you, I drank a LOT. Sometimes it was a fifth a day….. every day.
Now it’s been probably 15 years since I have had a single drink. And I am so thankful that God answered my desiring prayers to quit. Look, I’ve been there. I know what an absolute wicked beverage alcohol is. And trust me when I say that quitting the drinking was one of the best things I have ever done.
I would have to place milk as the second worst beverage on the planet. It has been proven to be a major contributor to many sicknesses and diseases including heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and even osteoporosis. That’s Right, Osteoporosis.! Posted on Dr. Michael Greger site are a slew of studies showing that ‘Milk Consumption is Associated with More Bone Fractures’. The problem is the marketing. The Dairy Industry has simply marketed a lie. And they have continued to do it for generations now. Just keep telling the lie over and over and over, and people will believe it. Oops, I was suppose to say ‘errors’ instead of ‘lies’, in order to be politically correct.
Here are their slogans… Milk does a body good. Milk, for strong teeth and bones. And of course now they do the ‘Got Milk’ slogan, promoting sales with celebrities in order to influence the young and uneducated. When I was in Michigan at a public medical school doing an event, their were lots of young music start like Taylor Swift with the white mustache.
Now while there is calcium and Vitamin D; that doesn’t make up for the massive amount of damage that milk does to the body. And in all reality, the pasteurization process does lose nutrients, and the fat removal does remove nutrients. Why do you think that milk is fortified? It’s really the only marketing prayer they have to promote that their milk is nutritional, because without it; there is simply not enough nutrient worth buying.
Cows’ milk protein may be the single most significant chemical carcinogen to which humans are exposed.
T. Colin Campbell
The Bottom Line: There is more science showing the damage of milk than any other beverage out there. I would recommend staying away from milk completely. It is loaded with animal fat, and calories, and animal protein; which is proven to be yet another harmful element.
Alternatives: Today there are lot’s of options. Almond Milk, Coconut Milk, Cashew Milk, and Rice Milk just to name a few, and they are all fortified with Vitamin D and calcium. And then there is Soy Milk; a great nutritional option that we will be studying in Baby Step #16.
Added sugar is the certainly one of the worst ingredient in the modern diet, and sugary drinks like sodas are loaded with them. Sugar drinks are also a ‘huge’ driving force to obesity.
Sugar, when consumed in large amounts, can drive insulin resistance in the body and is strongly linked to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. It is also associated with various serious diseases, including type 2 diabetes and heart disease.
But it’s not just the sugary drinks today, because there are a lot of sugar free sodas too. Most of which are made with brain tumor causing aspartame, or similar chemicals. Then there is actually the fact that there sugar free, and calorie free drinks don’t actually promote weight loss. In fact they actually promote weight gain, strokes and dementia. So save you money and quit wasting it on products that are proven to cause serious damage to the body.
Alternatives: Drink water. duh.! Add some lemon. And if you’re looking for something a little sweeter, add some stevia. Stevia comes in white or green powder, flakes, or you can get liquid drops in dozens of different fun flavors.
While there are always questionable claims that coffee has good health benefits, it is still a caffeine laced excitotoxin that harms the brain. Caffeine brings a temporary feeling of alertness and wakefulness while blocking adenosine receptors in the central nervous system of our brains. These neurotransmitter are involved in many body functions including the control of the sleep-wake cycle.
Personally speaking, I owned a coffee and spice company in Las Vegas for years. I had the best gourmet coffees from all over the world. Ethiopian Harrah, Mexican SHG Strictly High Grown, and Kona were certainly my favorites. But then about ten years ago I was sick and didn’t have coffee for a little while, then I was fine. Then every time I would drink coffee, I would get sick again. As long as I was not drinking coffee I was fine. This went on for about a year, until I finally decided to quit coffee all together. And I’ve never had a problem since. I don’t know if they’re spraying the coffee with something today or what, or maybe my body just finally had enough and started rejecting any form of caffeine. But now, years later, I am so thankful to no longer be a caffeine junkie. I save a ton of money, and have never felt better.
Alternatives: There are plenty of coffee substitutes out there. I enjoy a hot coffee substitute in the mornings called Roma, or Teeccino is another substitute that has some great flavors like french roast, and vanilla nut.
There are a lot of people out there saying to stay away from juices. And for the most part, they don’t have the intelligence to explain why. And through that process of a lack of knowledge, they are actually putting out a false narrative that juice is bad for you when in reality it is not.
The problem with juices is that they generally come with a lot of calories and don’t really satisfy the body as well as if you would just eat the fruit. And the bigger problem would be that most the packaged juices are simply a lot of added sugar, and very little actual juice. Then you also have the manufacturers of the juices that tend to gravitate to chemicals for a longer shelf life.
The real reality of juice is that it depends on what type of juice you are drinking. In fact there are a few clinics around the country who have serious success in reversing chronic disease with juicing. These facilities have been able to reverse even some of the most stubborn conditions like arthritis, chronic high blood pressure, and even lupus.
The other set back about juicing is that you can lose a lot of the fiber. Personally I would rather do simple blending. But people with those extreme problems get better penetration into the cells when juicing rather than blending.
The Bottom Line: The best thing to do is once again stay away from those processed juices, and stick to the fresh juicing. And do remember that the fruit juicing does come with a far heavier calorie count than the vegetable juicing.
